I am not advocating dumping gorillas. I am suggesting that diversification into other sectors might be short-term prudent, and lessen the damaging psychological effect and effect on one's portfolio. When things change, there will be plenty of time to re-focus on gorillas.
Money can flow out of areas. We are seeing fairly significant asset switching within mutual funds out of the techs into the value sector. While this may well be occuring at the bottom of the tech cycle, it does add pressure to fund managers who either have to liquidate shares to fund redemptions, and/or are not getting the flow of new funds that they had been used to.
I am maintain my current positions in the gorillas that i favor: SEBL, NTAP, EMC, ITWO, JDSU, INTC, and MSFT. I do not currently own CSCO or QCOM. I am not adding to these positions at this time. They are in a lock-box, and represent a percentage of my portfolio that i am comfortable with. When the psychology of the market shifts, I plan to shift my investment mix accordingly. Larry
