Reagan "beat" the Soviet Union into submission

this is one of the Reagan Republicans' delusions. SU crumbled under its own weight. Nothing Reagan did would've made a difference for SU to die the natural death it did; other than a large cash infusion or invasion by US of course :-). Such corrupt and paranoid systems don't survive. US tax payers got shafted in the mean time by mean politics of Reagan for no good reason. CIA thought that SU would survive a lot longer as late as mid '80s. This shows you how informed decision maker the president was at that point.

Paul,

The Soviet Union collapsed of it's own accord. They were bankrupt politically, financially and morally, and there was nothing left for the Communists to steal.
