OT mostly...

Hijack,

I'm afraid my daily exercises are more along the lines of mental masterbation.
They say that sex is a lot like bridge, you either need a good partner or a good hand. Glad to hear you got one.

Doesn't HDTV require about a ten X bandwidth enhancement?
Some of the wonks at the Last Mile thread would know the exact figures, or mebbe NYStew at the GMST thread. He's amazing on this stuff. What you say sounds about right, but I've no data of the top of the noggin'.

The current streaming video I now receive consists of a tiny 4" X 4" area, all in herky jerky over a 1 meg line. Are these MPEG compression?
Sounds like you are short of bandwidth, buffering and maybe processor power. The compression is going to give some degradation of the pixels and image, but the herky jerky isn't a compression issue, TTBOMK.

It actually took SBC three months to figure it out.
WRONG! It took them three months to tell you. There's a difference.

No complaints about RoadRunner, except the failure to notify when they have scheduled downtime. This I consider to be a blatently stupid management failure on their part. After all, they do have everyone's email address, and it would cost nothing to send the message.
Same lousy BS here. Seems that they learned their communication skills from the airlines.

Best, Ray :)

Roadrunner and browsers. I haven't experienced any problems with RR lately. Majority of problems happened in the first few months of hook-up and that was years ago. I do hate how it slows down during prime time.

What browser do you use by the way? I find that some sites work better on IE and some on Navigator, so I keep both open all the time. When one is slow or ineffective I'll use the other. Though I must say more sites seem to be IE optimized.
