I cannot imagine that fish are not suffering. Gasping for breath is not pleasant. Having a hook through your flesh is not pleasant. They have nerves- I am sure they feel.

I agree with you. Cutting worms in half is a hard way to get two worms. The fact that they can regenerate, doesn't mean they like it. I think they'd prefer to have worms the old fashioned way - with eggs. I'd always clean my trout immediately. I couldn't stand to have sit around awaiting their doom.
