Fowler,

RE:"Michigan is supposed to be second on per capita golf courses to Florida," more amazing, NUMBER 1 in boats per capita, second to Florida.

I thought it's Colorado? I better check up on it. <G>

I think Arizona used to be number 1 per capita in boats. Low capita and the colorado river. Then the "capita" rose.

Florida could do with a lot less "capita" right now...

John,

I want some numbers. Boulder County has about 25 courses, serving a population of 200,000 people.

John and all,

OT: Golf courses, the semi-definitive word.

I couldn't resist running the "most golf courses" question through the ever-amazing Google. As a public service, here are my results (I offer no brief for the sources):

State with highest number of golf courses: Florida with 1190; then California with 950 and Michigan with 910.
golfcalifornia.com

County with the most golf courses: Maricopa (AZ) with 168 followed by Palm Beach Country with 150.

County with most golf courses per square mile: Palm Springs, Ca.

airaffair.com

But maybe York, Pa.
high.net

And a few years ago, Whatcom Co., Washington.
klipsun.wwu.edu

City with most golf courses per capita: Sarasota, FL.
sarasota-welcome.com

Uh, no, Fort Lauderdale.
nefn.com

Uh, maybe not, maybe Cape Cod(?!).
tiac.net

*Large* city with most golf courses per square mile, Phoenix.
debate.uvm.edu

Uh, maybe not, Minneapolis.

Clearly this topic needs more research. :-)
