FED just did a coupon pass on top of other RP actions today with fed funds above target at 5 9/16. They didn't take the coupon action because of the above target rate. Apparently they're making injections on a periodic basis, say every 4 days, and this action has an impact somewhat outside of the daily RP actions. The RP actions are designed to fix the instantaneous fed funds rate and the outright injections are aimed at putting a floor under financial markets. It's mysterious why the fed funds rate is sticky at 5 9/16. If it persists there in spite of RP targeting, that would indicate that the demand for loanable funds hasn't been weakened by perceptions of economic slowing.

All of those oil service stocks are very near a peak and will be disappointing. Isn't it
the case that a slowing economy causes a slowing in the demand for oil? Admittedly not much so producers of oil should hold up, but oil service
needs continually rising price to significantly advance. OPEC has stated they want to fix price at current levels.

These prices are fine, I think. Continually rising prices would curtail demand. OPEC recognizes this also and their goal is to maintain a happy medium. After shooting themselves in the foot on $10 oil I think they've pulled their act together.

I picked up a small basket of service stocks and they look okay. When they stop I'll climb off and look for something else. I think one is going to have to look for opportunities outside of tech to make money this year. Not very glamourous stuff but heck, it's just symbols on a screen, only your money is real, right? ;o)
