Stephen:

I agree with your post. You don't short a stock that has excellent fundamentals. Dell has that attributes. That is different from Amazon. Although shorting a stock has an unlimited loss potential, one just don't let it ride until it hits skyhigh before you cover. Have a buy stop or buy a call. A stock like amazon is just good for shorting. I have done it several times, and cover them too soon (I am not complaining because I reaped profit every time). The characteristics amazon give us a double amounition for going down: a. fundamental is as stinky as a skunk and b. market downturn. Compare that to dell: the problem is just market downturn while the fundamentals remain intact.

go longhorn!

correct, i learned a very expensive lesson. barrons was pushing dell as a short. it had risen a lot and rose 6fold more. correct, except i went long dell at 29 and 25.
i have gone long stocks i had been negative on after they dove. i tried to short amzn but couldn't. i first wanted to short it before it hit its peak.
