Your statement is so unscientific as to be astounding. How on earth could you make assertions? YOUR memories are nothing but waves of chemicals in an inert medium of fatty acids and lipids. Should I ague that you aren't conscious?

It is well known that the telegraph vine can communicate with other vines over 1000's of meters. There is a fungus colony that covers several thousand acres in Michigan. The evolution of a climax forest ecology is a collective "memory" of 1000's of unrelated species, in many ways, acting as one.

Connection is not about the ability to talk, but to carry information from one generation to another. One of my degrees is in Geology and when we were doing field work, we could taste the mud deposited (now cooked into shale) from a 150 million years ago. Using tastes is common in soft rock geology. The "memory" (chemical stores) of a depositional environment will "talk" (carry information) to you. That is what memory is: the sharing of information from one time to another. You're imbuing your brain with properties and characteristics without ascribing a mechanism - almost like human consciousness and memory is "magical" to you.

This is how memory is stored: chemicals (or other information state holders, like letters in a book) locked in a matrix, affecting future chemical (or other informational) transactions.

Still leaves me cold.

I'm with Cosmic on this. Experience may be a poor choice of words. I would say that the tree's essence remains just as our essence will remain in some form or fashion and to some degree. We're all in this together.
