You got to care what the analysts are saying. If you had gotten in when the majority of them were saying "hold" and gotten out when the majority voted for "buy or strong buy", you would be sitting on nice gains now. If you didn't care what they did, you would have held this stock over the last 5 or 6 or 7 years and generated lower-than T-bill returns... after taking stock-market risk.

Here, here! Analysts often downgrade near bottoms and upgrade near tops. Most are overpaid pushers of an institution's whim. Given the power of some, I'm surprised the SEC only chooses to go after children and small time manipulators. On many occasions I consider downgrades as good buying opportunities. I regret the losses holders have when I buy after a downgrade, but I've been a victim of a downgrade here and there, so it all evens out, I guess.
