Albert and Scumbria,

The root problems with health care and health insurance go way back to when health insurance became an employer paid "benefit".

Now there is no free market competition, the best price is based on the number of policies an employer can deliver in bulk. There is very little differentiation in heath insurance products, because the corporation is paying the way, not the end user. Health insurance and treatment has been turned into a commodity designed to benefit the employer, not the user.

Imagine if everyone had to write a check every month for health insurance. The prices would be more competitive, the products would be more varied because the end user would decide what elements are important, and what elements are too expensive or not important. The free market would make medical treatment meet the demands of the end user, without a lot of wasted costs. Providers would find ways to cut costs so they would be competitive.

Why should your employer pay your health insurance and not your car insurance or home owners insurance?

As long as we are off topic I figure I might as well get way off topic with a pet peeve.
