The idea that asynchronous logic will speed up the chip significantly is based on nonsense.

While it may speed up lots of non-critical paths, the ultimate speed of all microprocessors ultimately comes down to fundamental datapath, which is already asynchronous.

IBM threw about $20 million down an asynchronous PowerPC rathole a few years back, and came away with nada.
