John, >I'm waiting for just one tech firm to come out and raise guidance. Think it will happen in our lifetimes?

Veritas reaffirms! Guess we'll have to settle for that for now.

Veritas Software (VRTS) 59 13/16 -3 13/16 : Coimpany reaffirms guidance for FY01 and Q1; says not seeing widespread effect of slowdown. Company also announces the resignation of Greg Kerfoot from board. VRTS shares up to 62 7/8 after hours.

Help EMC?

Tony

John,

<I'm waiting for just one tech firm to come out and raise guidance.>

Unless that company happens to be Intel or MSFT, I don't think it will matter much. VTSS, LSI, TXN, ORCL, you name it, they all were overly optimistic with their forecasts and I doubt many analyst would have much faith in any positive views from them right now. Intel's forecasts, on the other hand, have been very prescient and more timely then any company I know of. In fact, they have been unduly criticized for their -15% revenue projection in January when people like L Ellison were squinting through rose colored glasses. Any bullish investor in Intel knows that they are at the center, or close to the center, of the technology universe, and while no company possesses a crystal ball, Intel is the best barometer out there.
