Us wireless investors have MUCH to blow off steam about. <g> On Herr Su's thread we have to maintain decorum ... and we all do. Puck has been kind enough to create a NOKIA only thread, so this venerable one becomes no holds barred. One of these days perhaps we can convince Puck to adapt some of Ramsey's commonsensical "Rules", so there is a standard for posting over there, and more of us that follow wireless diligently can post there, regardless of bias and persuasion can post there ,,, provided that we observe the "rules". << I do enjoy your contributions >> I enjoy yours as well. You have followed India very closely, and that is something that would not have come to my attention if you had not done so. << confused about part of your answer ... is there an international standard for determining these real life data rates >> No. Particularly in a high level presentation. When you are dealing with "effective throughput" or "practical user rates" as opposed to "peak rate" or maximum "cycle speed", (data or other) you can easily, in a presentation, bridge to this, however. In the process of doing so the presenting company demonstrates industry knowledge and expertise, defines issues, and creates unique solutions. This sets flags that the vendors competitors must address. << would each manufacturer determine his own based on the "honor system". If the answer is the later case, do you think all of the manufacturers would interpret the honor system in approximately the same way? >> Each company would build the presentation in his own way, and in doing so demonstrate his own skills. << It seems to me that some of them are prone to exaggerate >> Absolutely. The quality of the presentation and demonstration of a platform oriented systems solution, separates the weak from the strong. Decision makers of the major carriers can easily separate exaggeration from candor. They have by now, been around the block several times. Billion dollar decisions are not made lightly. Capability, credibility, and candor count. Sometimes vendor financing carries the day, but in the big ball game of today, with the spotlight sharply focused, close examination of the product offer is tantamount. Best, - Eric -
