This is something I've had to deal with recently because my parents were living in Kuwait (now in India) and my brother was and is living in Dubai. Both my parents and my brother tried very hard to explain to me that all the Middle East isn't what we in the US get to see in the media, that things really aren't quite as bad as I've been led to believe. Heck, my brother almost had me convinced that Dubai is another Hong Kong or Singapore since it is a serious trading port between Asia, Africa and Europe. I still think I'm happiest here in the US but I have had to rethink some of my preconcieved notions about the Middle East (and Australia - my brother was living there too before he moved to Dubai) some since listening to them. This is not to say that they're all great - I still think the US is the best place to be in (after all, we only get movies like Eyes Wide Shut censored in the US . . . but let all kinds of Arnold movies play anywhere <g>) - but it isn't quite hell everywhere else <g>
