QCOM is not about to explode, and China is building right now. Read the Chinese articles and you'll know.

But, we're getting OT. Enough of QCOM here.

And, yes, Palm has MORE volatility. How far did Palm fall....what's it down about 80%, at it's low?

FNS,

...and for PALM also, perhaps dude to Sharp's entry!

Linux has been pretty much a failure in every market besides the thin server and low end UNIX server market. For whatever reason, Linux didn't gain any success in any embedded devices. At this point, I give Linux, at best, a remote shot at being remotely successful among certain specialized users. I see no real threat from Linux at this point. And considering Sharp is promoting it makes me to give it a near zero chance to make much damage.

I'd like to see wireless PALM able to operate worldwide...anyone have idea as to timeframe by which this will happen!

Unitl a carrier starts offering global data roaming. As far as I see, a GSM universal radio module could be put in a Palm at any time, if it is not already available for the European market. Later this year, Palm will support BlueTooth, making this a nonissue.

Regards,

Khan

FNS:

QCOM just recently announced their MSM 6xxx chip family, which will be a multi-mode chip allowing roaming on all 2G/3G systems including the 3G IMT-2000 standards CDMA200/WCDMA/1xEV, as well as compatibility with existing GSM/GPRS, CDMA (IS 95A/B), and AMPS networks:

QCOM plans to have sample quantities available Q1 of 2002, well ahead of 3G deployment in Euroland. Palm is already selling a GSM "add-on" in Europe for the present wireless networks there. Unfortunately. you need a different add-on for your Palm in the US and Asia. However, a couple of years from now, worldwide wireless roaming with your Palm PDA, cell phone, or combo unit will certainly be possible.
