I moved to CA about two years ago. I am constantly amazed that solar panels are not more in use here - there is SO much sun!

The CEO of AstroPower spoke about a year ago at NREL (National Renewable Energy Lab, where I work) here in CO. He was reporting on the progress of a PVMat contract w/ DOE handled through our lab. One idea he emphasized was his belief that deregulation of the power industry would be the primary driver of solar cell industry growth. Essentially, the reduced reliability of the system would drive residential customers to install solar electric systems. Residential solar, as opposed to "solar farms" would be the industry path. That idea seemed odd to me then, but now it makes more sense.
