Dan3: P4 is a pure desktop design, and Foster is going to have a hard time in a many process environment.

While I would agree that the current Tbird L2 cache is relatively better suited to a "many process environment" than the current PIII L2 cache (and, presumably, P4 L2 cache), I think it's naive to think that Intel won't make some serious changes to Foster. Current speculation is that, if nothing else, Foster will sport at least 512kB L2 cache. If Intel deems associativity to be an issue, it would be fairly simple to make the twice sized L2 cache twice the associativity of the current P4 L2 cache.

Re: "Hope springs eternal in the IA-64 fan's heart, but so far, not so good."

The IA64 has had fully functional silicon for over a year.

Tell me about the Eternal Hope for AMD's 760MP !!
