Only through a deliberate, and concerted effort, is it possible to suppress this truth. There is a conflict of interest when it comes to acknowledging God's existence, because if we acknowledge His existence, we must also allow that we are responsible to Him. Unfortunately, Woody Allen was not alone in saying, "The heart wants what the heart wants". Some if not all of us would prefer that God did not exist, so that we might continue to do the things that we know in our hearts are wrong, but we do them anyway. "Exactly what do you mean by this?" Well it seems pretty self explanatory but I'll give er a go. Every place you go on this planet where you find people, you also notice that they generally hold to the idea that certain things are wrong, and certain things are right or good. While there is not absolute agreement on what these things are, there is remarkable similarity to them, even between remote cultures. For instance it is generally good to tell the truth and bad to lie. Likewise, sleeping with another mans wife or another woman's husband without some prior agreement is also bad, while fidelity and loyalty is considered good. I could go on and on but I think you get the point. I contend that this inner sense of right and wrong is not the result of an evolutionary conditioning but rather it is because we come pre-loaded with God's software. The reason there is disagreement about the particulars of morality is because our programs have been infected with the virus of SIN. This appears to give people such as yourself an excuse to deny the obvious existence of ultimate morality, but the manual says that you are without excuse. That is to say, if universal moral laws exist, then, in all likelihood, a universal, moral, law giver also exists. It would then also follow, that we are responsible not just to ourselves, but first and foremost to Him. Have a good day. Greg
