Ah yes.... the tech rally shows itself at last.

I'm getting giddy thinking about reshorting the likes of MU, ONIS, IBM, and decidedly non-tech GM. Others like BRCM, BRCD, JNPR have a good way to run before I'd consider it again.

Actually went long on CSCO looking for just a daytrade scalp.

IMO definitely not a lasting bottom. Just the market showing it's ability to extract some more capital from the masses.

Sharp

Congrats to all who went long tech - it was a gutsy call, and you've done well.

kb and others

Just throwing out an idea here but what if it's just the IT sector that is in recession. Let's say it's a similar to the oil patch recession of 97 98 and 99.

In the oil patch recession other parts of the economy continued to hum right along. Could the same thing occur with an IT recession? Could other parts of our economy keep clicking?

Is our economy so large now and diversified that rather than an overall recession it becomes more sector oriented? Does IT spending account for that much of our gross domestic product? PC spending?

It would seem to me that housing and auto spending would account for most of the consumer dollars. So when you throw increased energy costs on top of those dollars it would seem to me it's more of a shifting of consumer spending than a complete halt. You sacrifice one thing in order to pay for your higher heating bills and gasoline costs.

Transfer of wealth so to speak. All companies and their employees sending more dollars to the energy side. Less to the tech side.

Just thinking fell free to flame.

OT, off color joke. Kodiak, your post reminded me of an old joke involving an old cowboy and a rookie California cowboy.

The two cowboys had been out on the range for a few days when they spotted some sheep with their heads stuck in the wire fence. The old cowboy just couldn't resist such a made to order setup and jumped off his horse and started having a good time with one of the sheep. The California cowboy watched for a while and then nervously asked the old hand if he minded if he got some of that. "Sure" said the old hand. The rookie replied, "Do I have to stick my head in the fence?"

This is a fictional joke. In the GREAT STATE OF CALIFORNIA, our men do not have to beg for sex, no matter what our sexual proclivities are, because we are all charismatic, attractive and generally irresistable. The ones in Hollywood that you see in the movies are culls. this is just one more reason why there is such jealous rage among our inferior brethren in other states. Many of them get so bitter they become, like Kodiak, conservative Republicans. Bill Clinton would never have made it here. He just wasn't articulate enough. Ron Reagon made it here when he was younger but as he aged the competition was too much and he moved to DC. Now, if we just had some heat this would be paradise. Ed
