It seems like all are waiting for the 5105 to arrive. Korea had stories over the past few days of 1X not performing as well as expected so far due to the limited feature set of the 5100. They should be off to the races this summer with the 5105 in production, and the removal of the Korean government shackles of handset subsidies and market share restrictions.

U.S. carriers appear to be only slightly behind, with 1X buildouts starting this year, at the same time as a fully functional handset is available in quantity. As we saw in Korea, the infrastructure upgrade is relatively simple and fast. The handsets are the key to the timetable.

Also, it seems that IJ interview last week has really resonated in the press. There have been more articles in the last week about delays in W-CDMA timetables, and they are reported as factual delays, not speculative. It will go a long way in the fact that reporters will now start asking the hard questions that will be harder and harder to duck by the wideband crowd.

Loved the description of the DoCoMo launch by Perry LaForge, something like 'they will plant a flag in the beach'. Like claiming North America from a rock in Plymouth, except the natives will not be friendly this time.

It has been a week or so since IJ's talk in the Euroland and I already see some of the ripple effects in the GSM kingdom. I thought it would take at least a few months in order to see any slight move on their part.

EuroComms now realize that they are all dressed up and no where to go. I am guessing the GSMers have been putting some long hours in emergency board meetings in their executive conference rooms talking about the new kid on the block.

More to come I am sure . . .
