JDN: Tying funding support to test performance will be accompanied by battles over what is being tested and some schools will now gear the curriculum to performing well on the tests. This is not necessarily bad, but it's not necessarily equivalent to getting an education either.

Dear JDN,
I'm listening to Bush's rhetoric -- and I'm also watching his numbers. He increased the Federal education budget somewhat, but it's only 6% of school funding to begin with. Compare projected $ going to education against projected $ going to tax cut. Order of magnitude difference.

And even rhetorically, he's not drawing the line in the sand over the amount of his education increases -- he's drawing it over the 1.6 trillion tax cut.
