You have to look for symmetry. That is why I think that analogs are one of the best and underused resources for providing such models. You model and theory is only useful if it provides good predictions. Analogs provide some ability to conduct experiments and have some prediction. No model will ever be perfect and all ethics, no matter how clear cut on average, will be situational under other circumstances.

On a lifeboat, if people resort to cannibalism, they usually start eating the dead. What happens when you run out of dead? It gets pretty ugly.

In this case, when purpose remains
constant there is a set of absolute right and wrongs, yet you still
have to process each situation.

You still have to process most situations anyway. All but the simplest moral dilemmas require the sorting and prioritization of the applicable rights and wrongs. Sometimes you find yourself in a situation where all your options are wrong and you have to determine which is the least wrong. Even with a cookbook there's not always a pat answer.
