The firm also said it lowered revenue estimates for 2001 and 2002, saying the company is unlikely to gain the new business necessary to meet its current guidance. Akamai, whose technology speeds the delivery of Web pages, reiterated in January that the company's revenue goal for 2001 stood at $240 million.

Shares of Akamai, which is based in Cambridge, Mass., gained 19 cents, or 1.4%, to $13.56 in recent Nasdaq trading.

Also in January, the company posted a narrower-than-expected loss for the fourth quarter, beating the consensus estimate by 7 cents a share.
