tejek,

re: You assume these kids are going to a store and purchasing a gun....that could not be further from the truth. The reason they have guns to settle disputes as opposed to 30 years ago is because
guns are more available to them but thru the black market not stores.....and that black market is huge.

Where did you make this up from?

Do you have any links to support these wild a** claims?

AFAIK, all of the past 15 years of school related shootings where with guns these kids never purchased but either stole from their parents or friends parents.

What exactly do you propose beyond making black market (read illegal) guns more illegal?

Ted...You assume these kids are going to a store and purchasing a gun <<<<

Yes I would be assuming that the kid or his family came into possession of the handgun legally. And AFAIK all of the guns used in the high school shootings to date were legally purchased. But you are right, I did not take into account the black market. Which brings up an interesting question, are you and Scumbria also recognizing the black market and the difficulties it represents when trying to outlaw hand guns.

...this is truly the moral decay that the Reps. complain about when referencing Dem. or B. Clinton.<<<<

I would assume you are trying to say "this is not etc." I also wonder why you didn't include when the dems are talking about GW. In truth, the fact that the gov. is crooked no matter who is president, doesn't send a good signal to the kids.

No, Harry, most kids like to learn.<<<<<<<

I hope you will note that I said the kids don't necessarily want to be in high school; I didn't say they don't want to learn.

And so there are certain kids who are not acceptable no matter what they do, they can't possibly meet the standards imposed upon them and so they react....sometimes in perverse ways...they mistreat an animal or a smaller kid or they get revenge....and getting revenge is becoming much more popular now.<<<<<<<

I agree that that is happening now. I was addressing how to alleviate the problems. I think high schools would be far better off is we got back to the basics, and treated the schools as a place of learning, rather than a place to correct problem students. If the kid doesn't want to go, then don't go. If the kid can't keep up in class, put him in a class he can keep up; don't slow down everybody else. Trouble makers should be evicted, so the rest of the kids can learn in peace.

The worse part about all of this is that some of the teachers play into this whole popularity thing; and are afraid or unwilling to step in when they see a kid being abused and worse, sometimes become one of the abusers.<<<<<

I am not so sure that the teacher should be responsible for that.. The teachers responsibility is to teach; discipline on the playgrounds or halls should be someone elses job. And as I favor the schools only being responsible for teaching, I favor evicting the troublemakers until they learn how to behave in and out of class. Who would patrol the kids. Student courts, where students can air their greviences, should be tried by their peers. . Have the students patrol themselves as much as possible. The kids will listen to their peers much quicker than they will a teacher.

Just like the black market in drugs, and we all know how well making them illegal has worked to cut the supply and make sure that there are no drug abusers in the US.
