Little Joe, my belief is that the democrat party cannot be fixed for at least two years. A stunning defeat in 2002 will be what it takes to dislodge the clinton scum still with considerable power in the party. The democrat party has no soul right now. You express clear ideas and understanding. Now I just have to show you there is no way for democrat methods to work in solving problems. I second that motion of yours and will throw in this summation of yesterdays VP crisis from Politex! You can hear the whispers now among the muffled roars. No one in the administration will publicly say it, but a good possibility is that Vice President Dick Cheney may see that his heart condition is not only a serious health problem for him --- it is also a long term political liability for the new administration. President Bush will stand firm in his support of Cheney. However, the Wyoming veteran may gracefully resign in a short time -- days, not weeks. The media has already stirred up the dust and the fitness question clouds are gathering before the sunrise. In the wake of medical diagnostic terms like "urgent" and "significant" being tossed into the air during the hospital news conference -- along with doctors saying there is a 40-50% chance of recurrence -- the administration risks becoming bogged down in too many questions about Cheney's ability to fully carry out his VP duties. Bush can't continue to treat the matter casually. Ari Fleischer will probably be faced with daily questions about Cheney's health. With a short history of two hospital visits in 4 months and 4 heart attacks behind him -- the most recent in November -- the questions won't fade away --- but, Cheney might, like the loyal soldier that he is ... A VP replacement? Cheney's empty cowboy boots would be tough to fill. Most of the people Bush trusts were former governors who have already been given cabinet positions. If he were to pluck someone from the ranks of senators and congresspeople, the list would have to include a safe Senate Republican seat to prevent a 51-49 Senate make-up.--Larry Shannon, Capitol Strategy. Timothy Noah over at Slate goes out on a limb today and names "Rummy" Rumsfeld as the most logical VP replacement, which is a very frightening thought.--Politex, 3/6/01
