Tim,
Hardly anyone else ever does it. Neocon does it on a daily basis, lately.
Sometimes it is stuff like "I'm going to bed now," which is perhaps appropriate to an involved conversation, and thus should have an appropriate recipient.
Often it is several messages in a row, to whom nobody else has replied, which indicates, to me, that they noone has deemed it worthy of a reply. If it is his personal thought journal, he should start a Neocon's Journal thread, and invite those who give a horse's patootie what he thinks to bookmark it.

SI doesn't have a function to post without it counting as a reply to someone.

Tim, I think the best way to handle a general post is to post to yourself. Then no one else has to be bothered and it's pretty quick and easy to find your own last post.
