Tenchusatsu,

re: Korea

Spent eight years in Korea. They have guns, but are all registered and actually kept at the police stations in safes.

Funny thing was, during pheasant hunting season I'd drive by the So Chong Dong police station and the hunters where standing around drinking SoJu, guns shouldered, chatting with the cops about where they were going.

Gun related crime is extremely low, but assaults are very common - usually broken bottles in night clubs. I felt completely safe until I went to Pusan and ran into a couple of gangs in allys around Haeundae (sp?) beach.
