Excellent point about the volume, Skeeter Bug.

I guess someone will have to do the integral of (volume*share price) from 1995 through March 2000 to represent the money that flowed in ...

and then do the integral of (volume*share price) from March 2000 through today ...

in order to determine in net money was made or lost.

I just don't like the sound bite that we've lost $4 trillion. That number is misleading too. It assumes everyone bought every share of every stock at market peak.
