I don't see why anyone needs anything other than a hunting rifle (in a sane society.)

Would you also allow shotguns? In many ways both are more dangerous then many of the so called assault rifles. The shotgun is more deadly close in and the hunting rifle will often be more accurate at a distance. IMO the current assault weapons ban makes little sense.

If I start with the basic gun control supporters assumptions. If I assume that there is no constitutional individual right to own a gun; if I assume that there are too many guns in the US and this fact causes many murders and great danger to many people; I still would not conclude that the assault weapons ban makes sense. It is not banning a uniquely deadly weapon more one that is esp. well suited for criminal use. If I started with these assumptions the only way that they would lead me to a conclusion that these semi auto weapons should be banned would be if they lead me to the conclusion that all guns should be banned. Except in the context of such a ban of all weapons the assault weapons ban is useless and illogical.
