Nope.

Matter of fact, while reading that I can restart using the Norton Rescue disks I looked for my bookmark in the book.

I knew it, it was marked at the page just before the instructions on making rescue disks.

The Windows 2000 recovery console disks? No to that either. Never knew to. Had them for my older 98 and 95 machines so no excuse why I did not do it. Been used to my son doing that for me. He has been busy this past year and probably never thought to.

Anyway, Win2000 Pro is supposed to be so stable that this stuff does not happen.

Nah, I thought I could make myself smile but it won't work. The irony is that I'm typing this on an old Macintosh. They never failed me at least.

Anyway, in 15 more minutes I shall have been at this for three hours. DELL has had me on hold for 20 of those minutes.

Wait, they are back......

Get back in a few, I hope

tanstfl was right, and so was I in a manner of speaking. I recalled when right that post that there was a "trick" to fixing the start-up by using the last known good configuration.

In the case of W2K the "trick" is to type an "L" instead of using the last config. Then <enter>.

Started right up, thanks to the Dell Tech. It must have taken them the entire twenty minutes just to find a tech familiar with that problem, which was something like,

IRQL_LAST_NOT_EQUAL_OR_LESS

Which evidently is W2K's version of a Fatal Exception.

He figures, as do I, that the program "Windows Bug" caused it and fouled my Registry. So if you are tempted to use that program be careful.

Another night shot to Hell thanks to Windows. Have to catch up on my work, see you later.

Emergency Repair, Setup disks

the w2k 'getting started' manual has more on that.

Mark,

We are certain that this machine did not come with a W2K "getting started" manual. We keep all the manuals in one large section of a bookcase and it is not there. Neither of us recall ever seeing one,

probably because of the on-screen manual.

No matter. On the on-screen manual it requests the user to create such disks using 1.44 floppies. Think it would be okay to use Zip or Jaz instead? The machine may be booted from the A: Drive, no?
