>>>>a great story of international clout, con-games,
murder, love and money. It's got action, plot, drama, mystery<<<<

ScrappyDo, Bre-X's a "great story" ...for those of us who made money in particular<VVBG> However, there are plenty who didn't who would probably take up the other side of this debate.

There is still some life breathing in the old story it would appear...as a consequence of owning Bre-X, there was player---the holding company if you recall---named BreSea (coined from the names of the two David Walsh sons, Brent and Sean). BreSea has fought off the court appointed receiver, still has between C$20-30 mil in the bank, valuable, partially rented office building in Toronto currently throwing off a mil or so per month in rental, a new board of directors as of Feb 9, 2001, and still a tender offer out there for uncommitted BreSea shares by a company seeking a seat on the board. They have extended their tender offer for BreSea shares still out there.

So, until BreSea phoenix like resurrects from the ashes, throws off the oppressive mantle of lawsuits and gets relisted, Coppola probably won't buy the story rights...you see, every good yarn needs a sequel, right?

Not only that, the Canadian company, MacDonald Oil and Exploration, claim, in a recent public press release that they are undergoing the necessary regulatory paperwork to extend their tender offer to USA citizens who are shareholders of BreSea as well....

Hard to keep a good story down, eh?

RE: the Diane Francis author...did you know that she, as a reporter for some Canadian rag, used copyrighted material from this here SI in her rushed hot off the presses tome? I understand from some that I'm even quoted in those pages. One of my rav fav treasures tho' is the copy of McLean's, a Canadian Mag where the Bre-X story in its heyday...complete with 4-color pix...was splayed for all to see. Ran across it about a week ago, in fact.
Maybe I should auction it on ebay...you think I'll get more than the cover price?

PS...which role do you envison for Hopkins? Peter Munk???
How 'bout Drew Carey for DeGuzman???...oh, that won't do...last I heard, he 'n Elvis were hiding in the Phillipines.
Yeeeeeeeeeeeehaw <---said with proper nasal ak-sent...<g>
