Hi Poet, and thanks for the response. I like the "when the VIX is low its time to go..." line.

I'm primarily an investor as opposed to an options trader, and my options activity is for the most part restricted to selling near term, out of the money covered calls against positions which I'd rather not be called out of. My investment in the underlying is what's of primary importance to me, but I like the income and increased ROI that I get from conservative CC writing. Naturally I try to sell when the IV (of the particular option) is high, but I was unfamiliar with the VIX/VIN until recently, and am trying to figure out how this can help me judge the volatility & price of the calls.

Love selling premium & time value, but selling naked calls (or puts, for the most part) is too daring for me!

I finally closed my Dreyfus account after 7yrs....held on for options...I am now using cybercorp...

ready to get back in the options game now....hand holding required<g> is the market gearing up for a rally into the FOMC meeting?
