Thanks Tunica. I was hoping you could put together a rally for me to sell. ggg I'll let you know when I do so. ng

From Briefing:

JDS Uniphase (JDSU) 28: Yawn. That was the market's reaction to a warning from this optical component giant after the close yesterday. It was hardly a surprise at all which accounts for the stock being up over $1 in the pre-market -- granted, the stock lost $2 late in the regular session yesterday on rumors of a warning. JDSU now expects MarQ revenue and EPS of $925 mln and $0.14 vs consensus of $975 mln and $0.17, respectively. JunQ is expected to be the same or slightly above MarQ. JunQ consensus was $1.1 bln and $0.17. Management did not provide guidance for fiscal yr ending June 2002. The lowered guidance is due to continued uncertainty in carrier capital spending, customer inventory adjustments and lower near-term sales visibility....JDSU's warning was not all that surprising for a couple of reasons. First, JDSU management was caught off guard by a Nortel (NT) warning a month ago. If they had not anticipated a warning at a major customer, their own guidance was too high. Also, a number of companies have warned in addition to NT including New Focus (NUFO), Avanex (AVNX) and Bookham (BKHM)....The guidance is a bit misleading. While the top line growth will be flat in JunQ, this guidance actually implies a more difficult June quarter given that it is the first full quarter to include SDLI results. Many are expecting positive sequential growth to resume in SepQ....Briefing.com is encouraged that the stock is not selling off further supporting the argument that most of the bad news has been priced into the stock, limiting its downside. Nonetheless, we do not expect the stock to rebound strongly in the near future given the lack of visibility. Many analysts are forecasting lower numbers than management's guidance as it's becoming clear even mgmt is having difficulty forecasting. Yesterday's lowered guidance is the third revision to guidance in the past six weeks. Also not helping is the company's decision to not put out fiscal 2002 guidance. They could warn yet again when they report MarQ. Longer term, we like JDSU at current prices as demand for next-generation optical networking components will be strong. But we expect choppy waters until visibility improves. -- Robert J. Reid, Briefing.com

I'm out. I sold the strength yesterday. The numerous earnings warnings and the weird gap up days on the Naz with little buy interest during the day have spooked me. I agree with Frank, Hank, and others that we have some greater downside exposure b/c of questionable turnaround prospects near term. I will look to JDSU again, but don't expect to until we see some more numbers.

with due regard to J. Steinbeck, I came in with a box of glory and here I stand with an armful of damp garbage.

best of luck to all,

ham
