Dear Willcousa: I suspect that the privatization of SS to some extent will still result in some type of guaranteed minimum payout upon retirement. Thus, I would imagin the stocks and bonds which will be available will be preselected by some method. For instance, a simple solution would be anything rated by Moody's or Standard and Poors as investment grade. I would think ANYTHING selected from such a Universe and somewhat diversified could EASILY far surpass the lousy returns current SS holders are getting. Thus the minimum guarantee probably wouldnt result in any cost to the Govt, just a form of handholding. JDN
