Winamp, a free plugin, converts MP3s to WAVs.
The rest of the software you need comes with the CDRW.

Jake, here's a few links regarding burning and the EAC software, which the diehards use.

I don't know how this differs for downloaded stuff, because I haven't done that, and these posts are about CD to CD copies.

Look into APS Tech external burners too - they're lesser known and not sold much at retail stores (at least for Windows PCs). They're as good as Plextor, which is considered to be a reliable high end brand for home users. You need to get and insert a specific SCSI card though.
