If importance is only in our minds, than we are the only things we are important to if we are important to ourselves. If corn, for example, does not "think" things are important- than we are not "important" to corn. If you think (well believe would be a better term) importance transcends humanity and the human mind (and I see no evidence for that) then we would be important to more than humanity.

You seem to be arguing that other living organisms on this planet do not think, and do not recognize "importance"- ergo by your own reasoning humans would be important only to themselves.
