US DVD player sales, down 23.3%, in the latest week.........

DVD title sales this week were down slightly from last week’s sales; however, they still remain healthy and well above the million mark.

According to VideoScan’s First Alert Reporting Retailers, for the week ending Feb. 25, 2001, DVD title sales were 1,818,000, down from last week’s sales of 2,166,000, but still strong. Year-to-date sales are 15,690,000, up 163.8 percent over last year’s sales!

According to statistics released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), for the week ending Feb. 23, 2001, DVD player unit sales to dealers were 165,542, down (-23.3) percent from sales in 2000, but up from last week’s sales of 117,682. Month-to-date sales are 555,856, up 38.6 percent from February 2000 sales and year-to-date sales are 1,127,887, up 46.3 percent from 2000 sales.

VCR deck sales for the week were 379,667, down (-42.6) percent from sales during this week in 2000. Month-to-date sales are 1,169,296, down (-15.7) percent from February 2000 sales, and year-to-date sales are 1,929,516, down (-23.3) percent from 2000 sales.
