Scott,

Another gun shot someone in a school in PA. They are trying to determine how the trigger was pulled. The gun is being held in custody. Just another gun day in the US.

News at 11!

Thats odd... last i looked.. the conservatives were in the majority on the US Supreme Court.

They may have been appointed by Republicans and they may be conservative on some issues, that doesn't mean I think they always follow the constitution. Also there is more then just the supreme court to consider. Most cases never reach the supreme court.

I submit to you that it may have more to do with the fear that if they go to court and lose, they'll end up basically getting a ruling more or less saying that the 2nd amendment is invalid - which is the crutch everyone in the gun lobby hangs on to protest against gun rights.

Thats pretty much saying the same thing I said in a different way. I am not certain that the courts will correctly interpret the constitution. Also I might lack standing because I have never been charged with violating a gun control law (I don't even have a gun), and I don't have the money to pay lawyers.

PS -Slightly on a different note.. I dont buy the argument that Jim Macinnis and others have stated on here saying that you cant implement gun control laws because there are too many guns out there.. Canada has the 3rd most guns out there - after the US and Norway.. I dont know the numerical difference.. but gun controls up here seemed to have worked.

I don't have exact numbers either but I imagine that the number of guns in the US dwarfs the number of guns in Canada and Norway combined. Also I think it is very likely that Canada has less non-gun violent crime so it appears guns and gun control laws are not the factor to consider when comparing the gun crime rates in Canada and the US.
When guns where basically banned in Australia crime went up. When states in the US allow concealed carry violent crime goes down.
