Cree warns (CREE)

Cree Inc. (CREE) warned investors that fourth-quarter earnings will come in lower than analysts expected, citing an increasingly competitive and slowing market for LED chips. The company expects fourth-quarter earnings of 14 cents to 16 cents a share, with revenue of about $45 million to $48 million. For fiscal 2002, the company believes that if the general economy improves and the company's pipeline of LED products improves revenue will be about $200 million to $240 million, with earnings running flat to 20 percent higher year-over-year.
