I noticed this book was reviewed in Scientific American.

GOOD NATURED: THE ORIGINS OF RIGHT AND WRONG IN HUMANS AND OTHER ANIMALS
by Frans De Waal. Harvard University Press, 1996

De Waal, rather unconventionally, tries to make a case for the development of morality in humans as a purely evolutionary process. Thought you might be interested.
