"they would prefer to sacrifice the country instead of taking their economic medicine" You have to realize that they don't view it as sacrificing the country. It wasn't all that long ago that "The Japan That Can Say No" came out and was all the rage. So far there seems to be more blaming of the US for their economic woes than trying to find solutions to their problems. And it is fairly common in Japan to look down on the US for a variety of reasons, blaming their economic problems on the US is a natural thing. This is a potentially dangerous problem if things don't turn around soon.
