Keith/Ben:

I agree with you guys - when I said "speculation" that's exactly what I meant. I recall that there were a ton of speculative posts on the SI QCOM threads last September and particularly early October (around 10/4 - 10/5) about a "major" US carrier (T or SBC/BS) switching from TDMA to CDMA based on anecdotal info from the Gilder conference. I could probably dig them up but that would seem to be a waste of time.

I also note that QCOM ran up from around $70 to around $87 on 10/4 and 10/5/00 in the face of a market sell off, a move that was (IMO) driven partly by this speculation, and started to tank back to $64 right after the SBC/BS press conference at 1:30 pm on 10/5 which turned out to be just the announcement that the Cingular child had been born and named. I recall that well because I used the run up to exit some Oct/Nov option positions at 1:00 pm on 10/5/00 since I was sure the PR was just going to be hoopla about the new name.

Recalling these events, I was simply pointing out that this not-so-new "news" might well be another negative for the short term stock movement.

P.S. How's that for a defensive post?
