I understand, although I think the death penalty is appropriate for some heinous crimes, like mass murder. It is also reasonable to try to make guns more secure......

In my opinion, the death penalty is counter-productive because it deters juries from the guilty verdict, leaves the potential for irrevocable miscarriage of justice, causes civil conflict, costs more, takes longer, and has too many ways for those with means to get out of it.

I'm beginning to be against it simply because it isn't worth the trouble in most cases. I don't think it should be entirely abolished because there are always people like Charlie Manson, Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and others that we simply can't have.

Trigger locks

Many knowledgable people say these types of actions lead to a greater degree of complacency and there are studies with devices as simple as child proof aspirin bottles that reveal this quirk of human nature. Even this guys father kept the guns in a safe and will not be charged with a crime.
So how did the kid get the gun? Probably found the combo to the safe or the key. Do we lock our cars so securely that our kids could not get the keys and joyride. Are the liquor and drugs(legal) in a house secure? I submit it is not a problem with the vast majority and I don't know how to reach the rest.
