Art,

There have been several of these network swaps recently were certain existing networks are acquired and converted to the acquirer's technology. We had several posters respond about the swapout programs when SBC moved their acquired Ameritech customers to TDMA. What I never was able to determine was if the swap was required in the terms of any long-term contracts, or whether the customer could opt out of the contract at that time.

Cingular has now switched some customers to TDMA and yet others to GSM. Being incompatible and having no dual mode TDMA/GSM handsets, their network is still regionalized and not nationwide in any sense related to roaming.
