To me its much more simple. People who look at me figure I have a torso and arms even though they only see my head and hands. My shirt is exactly the shape of my torso and arms so it makes sense that having seen flesh hands and a head that the other body parts exist. So, likewise I have a mind and brain. The brain is viewable the mind is not. I can wear a blowsy shirt, giving one body impression or I can wear a tight fitting shirt giving another impression. When it comes to brain and mind I figure we've got a blowsy brain situation. The fact that we have been created with a brain that is suited to house our mind is no surprise to me. So, what is provable scientifically? Well, we are stuck with the limits of science (I realize you don't "believe" science is limited), which is physical observation leading to theory. Theory isn't fact. There are other ways of knowing things. I remember being in my crib. I have recollection of the conversations people were having around my crib as they pointed at me and giggled and gooed. Of course, I didn't have formal language at the time. So, in part it is a false memory. I must have filled in the vocabulary of these conversations as I learned the English language. However, I have asked people who were there if these events actually occurred and they have confirmed them. I was conscious of these conversations, I had thoughts about them, and I was able to integrate that with brain processes as they developed. It is not provable scientifically that we have mind and conscience separate from, our physical brain processes or how individualized it is.
