Hi richard surckla; I think it was Hyundai Electronics that is dumping everything but memory and changing its name. That's only a small part of Hyundai. It's not immediately obvious to me how that impacts RDRAM or the memory business. Now if Samsung bought Hyundai's DRAM division, that would be important.

Hi richard surckla; More on the complicated Hyundai thingy:

...
In another move designed to distance the company from its ailing parent, Hyundai Electronics is renaming itself Hynix Semiconductor Inc. Shareholders will make the final vote on whether to accept the new name at a meeting on March 29, the spokesman said.

“It’s to show our independence at HEI from the Hyundai group as we move away from that and establish ourselves as an independent entity,” the spokesperson said.

Hyundai Electronics’ re-branding strategy could also be an attempt to disassociate the company with the troubled semiconductor market, Scovel joked.

“They are starting to not sound like chip companies any more,” he said. “Maybe that’s the point.”
