Samsung to Mass Produce 10 Million Direct RDRAMs
March 8, 2001 (SEOUL) -- Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announced that it will increase the production of Direct Rambus DRAMs (Direct RDRAMs) to 10 million units by March 2001.

The company plans to accomplish a monthly production scale of 10 million units (calculated in terms of 128Mb) during March this year, and raise the scale to 20 million in the latter half of this year.

Such plans far excel NEC Corp.'s plan of producing 5 million Direct RDRAMs per month from September of this year onward, and Toshiba's of producing 8 million memories of the same type. According to Samsung, its Direct RDRAMs will at least account for a market share of 50 percent.

Samsung's move complies with Intel Corp.'s request to help expansion and intensification of testing processes Samsung is planning.

Intel has so far asked DRAM manufacturers to increase their production in order to solve a shortage problem of memories for its Pentium 4 microprocessors.
