This note by Merrill would worry me if I were a SUNW shareholder.

<< 3:19PM Merrill cautious on Sun by Julie Rannazzisi

Shares of Sun Microsystems (SUNW) tumbled 8.5 percent. The steep decline came as Merrill Lynch issued a cautious note on the company. Analyst Thomas Kraemer said key contacts tell him that Sun's largest resellers are carrying almost 3 times the amount of inventory that would be normal. "These same contacts suggest that server demand in general remains weak and continues to disappoint their already downward revised plans. This explains Sun's cautious revenue and gross margin forecasts and could mean further pressure on numbers. This demand outlook isn't good for IBM (IBM) or Hewlett Packard (HWP) either," the analyst commented. >>

And only a few days ago, Sun management said there's not a channel inventory problem. If they misstate the true situation, they're likely to get sued. If ML misstates the true situation, they're likely to make more money on commissions. Who to believe??

The boxmakers will eventually wise up or disappear, IMHO. Don't be surprised to see boxes coming out of the factory with Linux preinstalled instead of Windows.

Microsoft's growth of earnings from operations is pretty close to zero as I recall. Luckily for them, they've been able to augment it with earnings from investments. How long do you think that will last?

All JMHO. Do your own research and form your own conclusions.
