Dave - If there is a Costco near you, they have the Olympus Camedia - C3040 Zoom for under $600. You can read about the camera here:

shortcourses.com

It's a 3.4 megapixel camera, and very compact.

You can also check some of the sites in my link above for others.

Be sure to put your puppy pictures on the web.

Dave,

Congratulations on your Siberian Husky! I used to have a Malamute, in my old age I have a Golden.

You might want to put off that purchase, if you still own AMD, with the Intel warning.

Dave, there's nothing wrong with the Olympus, but I'd also try out the Nikon Coolpix 880, which has similar resolution, is very compact, and will allow nice close-ups of your new dog under natural light if need be. All these cameras will get a little less expensive in a couple of months--it's the nature of the business. Be sure to buy a 64 mb flash card, or one of higher capacity, since high resolution photos do take up a lot of your flash card capacity. Then, if you don't already have a good printer, consider the Epson Photo series with high resolution. The Epson Photo series comes with Adobe PhotoShop 5.0 LE, and that alone is a pretty good piece of software.
