I wonder how intel gets capital gains without sales ?

"The company expects gains from investments and interest and other income for the first quarter of 2001 to be approximately $180 million. This expectation assumes no net gains from the sale of equity investments"

Al, it says "gains from investments and interest. If there are no sales all of the gains would be interest (or dividends but I think most of the companies Intel has invested in don't have dividends, probably a lot of them don't have profits either).
